The SRA has announced changes to the format of SQE1 which will apply to all candidates sitting the assessment from January 2027, including resitters.
The changes are designed to improve the candidate experience, and we’re already busy updating our Revise SQE books to reflect the new format.
What is changing?
From January 2027, each FLK assessment will contain 170 questions rather than 180, with 85 questions in each session instead of 90.
The time allowed remains the same at 2 hours and 33 minutes per session, so candidates will have a little more time for each question.
The SRA is also changing the way subjects are grouped. Particular subjects will now be allocated to each session, although questions will still be randomised within that session. Ethics and professional conduct will continue to be assessed throughout SQE1.
What are we doing at Revise SQE?
We’re already working with our authors and editors to update our SQE1 mock exam materials for the new assessment format.
Our FLK1 and FLK2 Practice Assessments books are being revised to mirror the new structure, including the new number of questions and subject groupings. We’re also updating the relevant information across our other SQE1 books.
We expect the updated editions to be available in early November.
Can I still buy the current editions?
Absolutely. There’s no need to wait until November to start studying.
If you’re preparing for the January 2027 SQE1 assessment and buy the current editions of our mock exam books directly from Revise SQE, we’ll replace them with the updated editions when they become available.
So, you can get started with your revision now, knowing that you’ll also have the updated materials in plenty of time for the January assessment.
